John R. Hewitt, age 61, was appointed as President and Chief Executive Officer and as a director of the Company in May 2011. Mr. Hewitt has spent his entire career in the engineering, procurement, and construction industry. Prior to joining Matrix in May 2011, Mr. Hewitt worked for approximately 25 years for various operating businesses of Aker Solutions ASA (“Aker”) and its predecessor companies, which provide engineering and construction services, technology products, and integrated solutions to the energy and process industries worldwide. Up until his appointment with the Company, Mr. Hewitt served as Vice President of Aker Solutions, where he was responsible for providing executive oversight on major capital projects in the power and liquefied natural gas industries. He also served as President, United States Operations at Aker Solutions E&C US, Inc. from 2007 to 2009 where he was responsible for managing all construction services in North America. Prior to that, he served as President of Aker Construction Inc. where he had full profit and loss responsibility for a multi-disciplined direct hire industrial construction business operating throughout North America. Mr. Hewitt holds a finance degree from Stetson University and an engineering degree from the Florida Institute of Technology. Mr. Hewitt is a member of the board of directors of Junior Achievement of Oklahoma, the Tulsa Area United Way, the Tulsa Area Salvation Army and the Philbrook Museum of Art. Mr. Hewitt also serves as an executive board member of the Tulsa Regional Chamber of Commerce.
As the current President and CEO of the Company, Mr. Hewitt provides a management representative on the Board with extensive knowledge of day-to-day operations. As a result, he can facilitate the Board’s access to timely and relevant information and its oversight of management’s strategy, planning and performance. In addition, Mr. Hewitt brings to the Board considerable management and leadership experience, extensive knowledge of the energy industry and our business, and significant experience with mergers and acquisitions.
Alan Updyke is the Chief Operating Officer at Matrix Service Company. Prior to this position, Mr. Updyke served as Operations President, Matrix Service Company. Before that, he served subsidiary Matrix Service Inc. in multiple capacities-- most recently as President from February 2018 to September 2019. Prior to his presidency, he was the Senior Vice President, Operations for all Matrix Service Inc. operating divisions throughout the U.S. and Canada including Estimating, Project Controls, Business Development and Craft Recruiting. He joined Matrix Service Inc. as Vice President of Construction in July 2012. Before joining Matrix Service Inc. Mr. Updyke spent 17 years with Brinderson, most recently as President of Western Operations. In that role, Mr. Updyke was responsible for providing strategic leadership and management direction to four regional offices and all major capital construction projects. Before that, Mr. Updyke served in various management positions with Brinderson including Chief Operating Officer, Executive Vice President, Vice President of Construction, and Vice President of Business Development. Previous to that, Mr. Updyke held the General Managers position for Turner Industries overseeing West Coast Operations.
Nancy E. Austin is Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer for Matrix Service Company, with responsibility for leading our Human Resources, Training and Development, and Corporate Marketing divisions. She previously served as Vice President, Strategic Services and Administration, with responsibility for these same areas.
Mrs. Austin served as Vice President, Human Resources, from January 2006 to August 2016 and as Director of Human Resources from September 2000 to January 2006. Prior to joining the Company, Mrs. Austin worked for TV Guide, Samson Resources and Villareal & Associates specializing in human resource management, employee relations, and consulting.
Mrs. Austin holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Political Science from Oklahoma State University and is a certified Professional in Human Resources (PHR). She is also a member of the Society for Human Resources Management, World-at-Work and Tulsa Area Human Resources Association.
Rick J. Bennett joined Matrix Service Company as Vice President and Chief Information Officer in 2014. Prior to Matrix, Rick served ten years as the Chief Information Officer at T.D. Williamson based in Tulsa, Oklahoma. His past professional achievements include Information Technology leadership positions at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Oklahoma, Blakely Crop Hail Insurance, National Farmers Organization, Taylor Ball Construction Management and The Principal Financial Group.
He earned his Masters of Energy Business (MEB) degree from The University of Tulsa, has obtained an Executive Certificate from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Sloan School of Management, and achieved his Bachelors of Business from Western Illinois University majoring in Management Information Systems and minoring in Computer Science. Early in his career, he served in the United States Navy as an Interior Communications Electrician. A father of three, Bennett serves as past-Chairman of the Board for Junior Achievement of Eastern Oklahoma and the Deans Council for Northeastern State University College of Business and Technology.
Justin Sheets has served as Vice President, Legal and Risk Management since October of 2014. Since joining Matrix Service Company in 2010, Mr. Sheets has served as Sr. Director, Legal and Risk Management; Director, Risk Management; and Sr. Counsel. Prior to Matrix Service Company, Mr. Sheets worked with Conway, McKenzie and Dunleavy in New York consulting with construction clients with a primary focus on mergers and acquisitions, restructuring and liquidations.
Mr. Sheets holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental Health and Safety Sciences from Indiana State University and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Tulsa. Mr. Sheets has received his Construction Risk and Insurance Specialist certification. He is a member of the New Jersey Bar Association, Association of Corporate Counsel and the International Risk Management Institute.

John Hart has served as Vice President of Business Development – Capital Services since September 2019. Mr. Hart joined Matrix Service in 2014 as Senior Director of Business Development where he advanced EPC and specialty vessel service areas, particularly LNG project services. Prior to joining Matrix, Mr. Hart was Vice President, Business Development for IDOM Consulting, Engineering, Architecture, S.A.U.; Vice President, Corporate Sales for The EI Group, Inc.; President of The Industrial Training Company; and President of AH&M Environmental and Pantech Inc. Mr. Hart is a former board member of the Commonwealth of Virginia’s Department of Environmental Quality and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from The Ohio State University.

Diego Carducci serves as Vice President of Operations for Matrix NAC. Mr. Carducci brings 30 plus years of experience in the energy, chemical, mining and manufacturing fields. Before joining Matrix, Mr. Carducci served as Strategic Development Manager for Bird Construction. Before that, he served as Senior Vice President and General Manager for SRS Industrial and Chief Operating Officer for LAIRD Electric Inc. Mr. Carducci holds a mechanical engineering degree from Carleton University, Ottawa, an MBA from SDA Bocconi, Milan and has executive leadership training from Centre for Creative Leadership in San Diego. He has also received a professional engineering designation in British Columbia and Alberta and a Fellow of Engineers in Canada.
Jay Crilley serves as Vice President of Business Development for Matrix NAC. Jay brings nearly 30 years of experience in the power and industrial industry. Prior to joining Matrix he spent four years as Vice President at Day & Zimmermann leading their business development for fossil and growth markets. Mr. Crilley started his career as a consulting engineer then became the Plant Engineer and Projects Manager at A/C Power Colver Operations. He was responsible for plant operations, maintenance, project management and management of outside contractors and vendors. He has worked for various power and industrial plant suppliers that have provided capital equipment, environmental technologies, environmental services, project management and construction services throughout the industry. Mr. Crilley holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering Technology from the University of Pittsburgh and is a Registered Professional Engineer in Pennsylvania. He developed a patented technology, holds various certificates and has multiple industry publications.
